At the heart of the US State Department's Cultural Exchange

Just returned home from my trip to Washington DC for the IREX Teachers for Global Classrooms conference. Got to finally meet the other 72 teachers from around the country who have been working on this project. 12 of us are headed to Russia in Late March. The conference was energizing as we explored examples of each others' student work and participated in numerous education workshops and cultural trainings. Sorry there are no pics of the Mall , the White house or other monuments. There simply was no extra time for sight seeing. The Fairmont Hotel was amazing, eating out in Georgetown was just darned fun and a huge thank you goes out to the IREX staff for such a terrific, challenging and enlightening event. I think perhaps the best part: My principal was able to join me for this excursion to learn more about this program. We both came away energized and full of new ideas.
Exhausted!
My principal, Mr. Huff, and I at the conference.

Statue of President George Washington at Washington Park, the hub of DC's world famous radial symmetry.

Who are you? Kto kto? Kto kto?

My school created these new business cards for me (thank you Miss Koop!).
Gearing up for Russia!

Mr. Oh! Goes to Washington

In 2 days, I'll be on my way to Washington, DC. It's been more than 20 years since I've been there but I don't think I'll have time to do much sight seeing. My school's principal is joining me on this trip. The event is sponsored by the U.S. State Department's IREX cultural exchange program: Teachers For Global Classrooms. 74 other teachers and I were selected from around the country to participate as a fellow in this unique and intensive program. The trip to DC is to conference on global issues in the classroom and to share ideas and projects our students have been working on. But most importantly, this trip is a warm up for my big trip to Russia later this spring. More on that later!!!
